Financial capablity trainer

Prudential are our key partner in financial capability. They have underpinned our work through substantial core investment over the last eight years. They have also helped us engage with other investors to set up projects that contribute to our shared vision and strategy. We are now delivering a wide range of projects. All of them help people avoid financial crisis and support our ambition to see all Citizens Advice Bureaux in England and Wales providing a financial capability service.

Local bureau projects

Projects run by the national team

MoneyActive – this project is recruiting and training 1,300 volunteers to deliver financial education in communities across the UK. It has also added new money management content to our Adviceguide website.

Horizons – this programme helps lone parents by providing expert information, advice and support on practical and financial matters. Citizens Advice Bureaux are running the ‘Your Money’ element.

East of England project – this regional project funded through the European Social Fund was delivered by Citizens Advice through a consortium of organisations. Drawing on the end of project evaluation, a series of new resources are now available to support financial capability training for people who are out of work.

Financial Inclusion Fund financial capability work – the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) was a government initiative to tackle financial exclusion. Citizens Advice Bureaux took part in a pilot to second advisers to spend time on financial capability work.

Financial capability forums – we have established 14 regional forums across England and Wales to enable Citizens Advice Bureaux and other local organisations to share experience and work together.

Top tips for Christmas – this project produces and distributes a pocket-sized leaflet of tips for budgeting and choosing credit to help with the cost of Christmas.

Energy Best Deal – this project shows people how to get the best deal on their energy, improve energy efficiency and get help paying bills.

Training support services – Citizens Advice promotes the delivery of high-quality financial skills training by bureaux. It provides training programmes, training materials and other quality assurance tools. Most of these are also available to other local agencies.

Young people and money - this was a free, national training programme aimed at agencies working with young people not in education, employment or training (NEET). More than 200 bureaux took part in over 500 training sessions between January 2008 and April 2011.
